2×2 Visual Impairment Cycling Program

OVERVIEW

The 2X2 program gives blind individuals an opportunity to ride tandem bikes. If you’re sighted, you can ride as a captain (in the front). If you are blind or have a visual impairment, you can ride as a stoker (in the back).

You can join regardless of your cycling experience. We’ve had both beginner and experienced stokers join the program. You can ride as a captain without any prior experience; all captains will receive training depending on their ability. Cyclists are paired up based on similar cycling backgrounds.

Time commitments are flexible as a captain. Some ride with stokers several thousand miles per year while others ride just a few times. We have a need for captains to ride anytime the weather allows us to. We will try and match you with a stoker when your schedule allows. Additionally, if you don’t live on the east side of Detroit, we’ll take your name and try to match you up with someone who lives closer to where you live.
