John Waterman is the Founder and Executive Director of PEAC. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Eastern Michigan University, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Research, Assessment, and Evaluation from Western Michigan University. He has been working with individuals with disabilities for over thirty years. In 2002, John received the Boggs-Mitchell Award. This national award recognizes individuals and community organizations that provide year-round, challenging and inclusive recreational programs for people with disabilities. In 2008 he was named the Bicycle Educator of the Year by the League of Michigan Bicyclists. In 2009, John co-authored a white paper on including individuals with disabilities into the Safe Routes to School movement. John is currently the chairperson of the Seniors and ADA Committee of the Citizens Advisory Council of Southeast Michigan’s Regional Transit Authority, and is on the non-motorized technical advisory committee for the Washtenaw Area Transportation Study.

After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2008, Laura taught middle school math and 5th grade in Chicago. In 2011, she made her way back to Michigan to design and implement our Active Transportation Program. She loves working with students on the development of their transportation skills, and is inspired by the way our students consistently advocate for the needs of themselves and their communities at the local, state, and national level!

Joe is a recent graduate from the University of Michigan, and is excited to join the PEAC Family! During school, he was heavily involved with Dance Marathon, a student-run non-profit raising money for Mott & Beaumont Children’s Hospitals. This experience led him to PEAC, where he worked as an intern before taking on the role of Director of Summer Programs.

Jordan graduated from Michigan State University in May 2015 and is eager to join PEAC and to take over development and fundraising ventures. She has experience as the Communications Director for MSU Impact Sports, as well as starting two charity programs benefitting residents in Detroit. She is excited to work with students through the Summer and ATP Programs, and is also excited to get on a bike and improve her cycling skills!
